For more information on how you can become involved, please e-mail Marcy Whitcher, PTO President at whitcher@metrocast.net

The first PTO meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 8th at 3:30 PM in the LMC.  We look forward to working with all the teachers and parents in the coming year!

SCHOOL STORE:
The School Store will be open during student lunch periods one day a week this year. If you would like to volunteer to help run the store, your help would be greatly appreciated.  Please let Laura (lhebert@strafford.k12.nh.us) know in the main office if you would like to help. We still need two more volunteers!

CUB SCOUT PACK 23 ROUND UP:
Calling all boys grades first though fifth to the Pack 23 2010/2011 Round Up! We are starting our new Cub Scout year and want to include you! Round up is on Thursday, September 16th, 6:00 PM at the Third Baptist Church Christian Center, in Center Strafford. Our program emphasizes character development, citizenship and physical fitness along with learning responsibility, camaraderie and companionship. We have weekly Den Meetings and Monthly Pack Meetings and a variety of events through the year.

Last year the boys did an overnight at the Museum of Science in Boston, five days of camping at Camp Carpenter in Manchester and a week of Day Camp at the Rochester Fair Grounds.

Come to our Pack Meeting, September 16th at 6:00 PM at the Christian Center and learn about our fun and exciting Program. If you have questions, please contact Trisha Baker, Pack 23 Committee Chair, at pack23@metrocast.net or call 664-9065.

SRS SOCCER:
The registrations are coming in and we are still in need of coaches for all age groups.  I will be having a coaches meeting on Tuesday, 9/7 in the school library from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  If anyone has questions about coaching please email Jenn Cronshaw at jkcronshaw@netscape.net.   Saturday, 9/11 will begin the soccer season; K-1 will be on the lower field from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM, 2-3 on the upper field from 9:00 AM -10:00 AM, 4-5 on the upper from 10:00 AM -11:00 AM and 6-8 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM on the upper field.  These times may change during the season depending on number of teams.

DROP INS:
Parents/guardians: Please refrain from stopping in to “just run down to the classroom and visit” your child or the teacher. Instructional time begins at 8:45 AM and runs through 3:10 PM. If you need to meet with a teacher, the office will gladly contact the teacher and set up a time for a meeting. Teachers are in meetings and preparing for the day from 8:00-8:30 AM and are not always able to drop everything to meet with you.

Attention Strafford Girls
Do you like outdoor adventure like camping and hiking?  How about having opportunities which are not offered to the general public such as having an overnight at a zoo with a back room tour, and up close animal encounters?   Going to see a Broadway show like Wicked?  Taking in the sights of Boston while hiking the Freedom Trail?  This is just some of the activities we did this past year.  Come and see what Girl Scouting is all about!

Strafford Girl Scouts: Information and Registration Night

Monday, September 13th from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM in the LMC
All girls interested in becoming part of the scouting experience are welcome to come find out about Daisy - grades K and 1, Brownie - grades 2 and 3, Junior -grades 4 and 5, and Cadette - grades 6-8.  There will be craft and refreshments offered this evening.  Girls and parents, come find out about Girl Scout opportunities, and meet the current leaders and scouts.  Registration information will be available this evening.  Come see what girl scouting can provide for you…It’s not just about the cookies, but they are great too!

BUILD RESPONSIBILITY IN YOUR CHILD:
Responsible kids learn to have a healthy respect for the house rules. This translates into being responsible and respectful at school, too. So teach your elementary schooler to be more responsible by asking him to:

Get himself up and ready for school each morning.
Fix his own snacks.
Pitch in with household siblings.
Lend a hand with younger siblings.
Take care of family pets.
Pack his school lunch by himself.
Make his bed and change his own sheets.
Help with cooking and serving meals.

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS............
A big thank you goes out to the PTO for supplying and delivering 600 Popsicles to students, staff and administration on Wednesday afternoon. This was a great treat for all and certainly was appreciated.
